And yes, this does not accurately describe all call agents from India. But surely, stereotypes and clichés did not puff out of thin air. They were created because a lot of people noticed the same thing. So this means that a lot of Indian agents have behaved a certain way and still perhaps behave a certain way (disinterested and bored such as in that scene in transformers). Also, India is very popular as a call or contact center location because it has been where the industry first sprung up and went full blast offshore. It has been so well established in everyone’s mind that the association is just unbreakable. So many comedians use this as the stuff of stereotype racist jokes. And when such a thing happens, when something has become a running joke on every late night talk show, then you know that that is the same experience for a lot of people.So does this mean that India is really not the best center call outsourcing location offshore? Not necessarily. There is still something that India provides that cannot be matched except perhaps if the Chinese suddenly started to lean towards English as a second language. India’s massive population and third world status makes the labor costs so low. There are quality India contact center companies of course, but basically every company that wants massive quantity instead of a focus on quality, then India is a sure bet. Perhaps some who have realized the potential of other locations such as the Philippines would also like to add quality to quantity, but a lot more companies are just interested in quantity.
