Is India Really the Best Call center Outsourcing Location?
by slumdog on Jan.19, 2010, under Awards
Call center outsourcing is truly taking off everywhere in the globe. In India alone, there is an estimated more than 500,000 call center agents working day and night. India of course is always the default country when one thinks of call centers. This has been perpetuated in every movie you have watched in the last couple of years and also in television shows. Just as a person what country comes to his mind when you say the word call center and I would bet you a hundred dollars right now that he will say India. If you for example have watched the show transformers, you will notice that there is one particular scene there that depicts what people think about Indian call center agents’ attitude. When the soldiers in the movie where fighting the evil Decepticon robots, they tried to call the military for more back up using a cell phone which was all that they had. But before they could get patched through to the military, they had to speak with a bored looking Indian call center agent. This agent was just speaking in a monotone voice reciting his spiel from memory while the noticeably and understandably frustrated U.S. soldier who kept insisting that it was an emergency almost lost heart at ever getting patched through because of all the bureaucratic procedures that the call center agent was following unmindful of the soldier’s pleas. This is just one of those cliché stereotypical depictions. And yes, this does not accurately describe all call agents from India. But surely, stereotypes and clichés did not puff out of thin air. They were created because a lot of people noticed the same thing. So this means that a lot of Indian agents have behaved a certain way and still perhaps behave a certain way (disinterested and bored such as in that scene in transformers). Also, India is very popular as a call or contact center location because it has been where the industry first sprung up and went full blast offshore. It has been so well established in everyone’s mind that the association is just unbreakable. So many comedians use this as the stuff of stereotype racist jokes. And when such a thing happens, when something has become a running joke on every late night talk show, then you know that that is the same experience for a lot of people. So does this mean that India is really not the best center call outsourcing location offshore? Not necessarily. There is still something that India provides that cannot be matched except perhaps if the Chinese suddenly started to lean towards English as a second language. India’s massive population and third world status makes the labor costs so low. There are quality India contact center companies of course, but basically every company that wants massive quantity instead of a focus on quality, then India is a sure bet. Perhaps some who have realized the potential of other locations such as the Philippines would also like to add quality to quantity, but a lot more companies are just interested in quantity.

The Popularity of Hindi Movies
by slumdog on Dec.26, 2009, under Awards
Movies have long been a way to celebrate life in the Indian culture. Movies have been a popular entertainment option since the pre-colonial days. The Indian public enjoys Hindi movies because they allow them to enjoy the ambience of a world that is make believe. However, Hindi movies are just limited to India; they are also popular among nearby countries and other parts of the world, especially anywhere with a sizeable Indian population.
Hindi movies are often referred to as Bollywood movies. These movies first came to India in the late 1800s when the Watkins Hotel in downtown Bombay showed six silent movies by the Lumiere brothers. A quite revolution started after these silent films as directors started making their own films. Finally Dadasaheb Phalke made a feature length film about the life of Raja Hanschandra and was released in 1913. In India this was the period of the silent film era.
A gap of eighteen years occurred before you could watch Bollywood movies with sound. The first Bollywood video with sound was directed by Ardeshir Irani called Alam Ara in 1931. At this time Hindi video featured song and dance as the narrative tone. From this moment forward the Bollywood video industry began to move forward and never looked back.
When compared to other film industries, the Hindi video industry is quite large. In fact, more Bollywood videos are produced each year than any other type of film. The style of a Bollywood video has changed throughout the years and today technology is allowing individuals to watch Bollywood movies that are more realistic.
The Indian audience tends to watch Bollywood movies that feature a mix of genres such as drama, music, action, adventure and tragedy. In Hindi parlance this is referred to as a paisa vascol which means complete value for money. Every Friday a Hindi video is released that is three hours long with all the exasperating genre experiences in one. All the multiplexes and single cinema halls prepare for these films by showing hot clips two days before. These hot clips can lead to advanced booking sometimes three to four days in advanced of a movie’s release. This ensures the producers, distributors and exhibitors of a movies success. Many hot clips are starting to use the big names of Hollywood who want to take part in the success of Hindi movies. Hindi movies are even becoming more popular with western audiences because of the excellent sets, high emotions and well choreographed song and dance sequences. In fact, today’s overseas market is a large source of profit for Hindi movies.
Since songs are a pivotal part in Hindi films it is easy to see why the music video is another popular choice in India. The music video provides an excellent option for the lyricist and music director to display their talents. The music video has changed drastically in Indian film as the new wave of modern music has changed what individuals and households are listening to. Music videos feature a combination of hip hop, rock and funk which have cooler lyrics and appear to a more youthful audience.
Online shopping has also changed how many watch Bollywood videos since they can buy their favorite movies from the comfort of their own home. The whole shopping process for Indian consumers has changed since online shopping occurred. Now you can easily order any type of Bollywood video you want without having to wait in long lines. You can also use the Internet to read movie reviews, see previews and watch hot clips before deciding which movie you want to see.
Indian movies are not only a way to depict the common life of the Indian individual, but they are also a medium that allows the nation to get a better glimpse of India as a country. Indian movies can certainly continue to grow if the economy stabilizes. Take a look online at the various Indian movies available and see what you’ve been missing.

Imj-online Leads Casting Directors to New Acting Talent From Pakistan and India
by slumdog on Dec.14, 2009, under Awards
Since its inception in 1999, “IMJ-Online” has become synonymous with “international modeling success” by helping aspiring and established models alike to make their presence known on the global stage.
But increasingly IMJ-Online is being used by industry professionals in the video, TV and film world to find new actors and actresses from nearly every region on the planet. These new faces and new talents are in high demand as directors seek to inject new excitement and an exotic edge into their productions. Notably, there has been a flurry of recent booking activity at IMJ-Online focused on capturing the talent bursting out of India and Pakistan.
Why so much interest and excitement in this region? Christina George, Chief IMJ-Online Editor says, “As global recognition of the high-quality talent currently doing fantastic cutting-edge work in India — but also in Pakistan — increases, so does interest in bringing this exciting new talent to productions in other regions of the world. In acting, the old adage that ‘success breeds success’ is oh-so-true.”
Christine continues, “Actors and actresses with roots and industry experience in India and Pakistan are simply hot commodities these days, not only in Hollywood and New York, but also in some of the other hot film and TV production areas such as Chicago and Texas, Brisbane and Madrid.”
International Models Journal (IMJ-Online) is a global networking medium between models, actors, scouts, casting directors, agents and industry professionals alike (referred to bookers on IMJ-Online). Launched in 1999, IMJ-Online publishes vital news about industry information, casting calls and member stories, guiding hopefuls and professionals around the world to further their careers.
Bookers who seek a broad spectrum of new models and talent, may register at IMJ-Online for free, receiving access to a large database of unique and exotic faces, bios and portfolios. Registered bookers may publish announcements, casting calls and auditions to find the right persons through IMJ-Online.
Registered models and actors may create a portfolio and bio displaying past experiences using photos and text. The portfolio entries may include runway shows, promotional events, pageants, photo shoots, magazine features/covers, stage entrances and still shots from TV or movie appearances. Bios serve as a complete insight on the model or actor, highlighting their personality including a list of facts like birth, education, work, awards, achievements, dreams, desires, goals and aspirations.
Francisco Vandery, who seeks talent from India for film productions in the eastern United States tells us: “I regularly – very regularly – consult IMJ-Online because, quite frankly, I don’t have the time to sift through hundreds of poorly-done portfolios when looking for talent to audition for my productions. I know that when an actor or actress has been accepted by IMJ-Online, I will quickly get a quality description of their experience and talents. And it’s a site that is very easy to use. The way the site is set up, I don’t feel that I may be missing some perfect fit for my jobs just because the person is ‘filed’ wrong or that their portfolio is of distractingly poor quality.”
Booker reliance on IMJ quality and professionalism is one of the keys to the modeling-acting network’s success. Every photo submitted to IMJ-Online is checked by a photo editor. “We only accept about 65-70% of the photos that aspiring models and actors send us. I feel that we owe it to the models and actors who register with us to make sure that they present themselves professionally and seriously. A bad-quality photo of a very attractive person is still a bad quality photo,” says the pragmatic photo editor Susan Birch.
English editors also work with IMJ-Online clients to edit biographical and portfolio entries to ensure that a professional international standard is achieved and maintained.
“Our mind set concerns quality over quantity. We run a professional site, only working with those who are serious about pursuing a career in the model and acting business,” said Miss. George.
The race to book new talent is tight, but so is the contest to be noticed by industry professionals. IMJ-Online is helping the supply of talent reach the demand not only for exciting new faces but also for riveting, exotic-yet-familiar on-screen talent.

National Game of India â?? Cricket
by slumdog on Nov.24, 2009, under Awards
Â
Cricket is the national game of India.Oh! Sorry itâ??s Hockey. See, thatâ??s what the condition of our nation game, hockey, is at present.
Cricket is the god of all the sports played in India. Why? Take a step back, sit down at your desk and think for a moment, you yourself will find the answers.
Hockey has given 8 Olympic gold medals to India, hitherto. No matter how much achievement has been done in hockey, it remains insignificant. We still donâ??t want to give opportunities to hockey; neither do we want to strive for its upliftment. We donâ??t want to give equal respect to games other than cricket.
Cricket has become a major sport in India.T20 is the future of cricket. Thatâ??s what they say. The question still remains – why are we giving so much importance to cricket?
There are many reasons: Money, fame, name. Though, the pivotal reason remains media. Not only does the media stalwartly supports cricket, but also plays a vital role in publicizing the game.
 Â
Media should encourage other sports too. Every day we see the newspaper. Every one does visit the sports section. If you have observed, cricket occupies one whole page and sometimes two. Itâ??s very rare that other sports get such luxury.
Media should not concentrate only on cricket, but also pay equal attention to other sports.
Coco Cola, Pepsi, Gillette and other companies should also give at least 10% amount of cricket advertisement cost to other sports in India.
As far as government is concerned, it needs to think about other sports played in India too. The sports Minster is always seen in the cricket match.
Why cant there be more like the movie â??Chak deâ?? and less of â??3 mistakes of my life?â??

Lithotripsy in India: Go Get it
by slumdog on Oct.13, 2009, under Awards
Get relief from pain of kidney stones by Lithotripsy in India at fewer prices. Lithotripsy is one of the most common Urosurgery procedures in India. With the best infrastructure and medical facilities, accompanied with luxurious travel, India is a first choice of many international patients. Lithotripsy is available at the most competitive prices in India at Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Lithotripsy is a noninvasive (the skin is not pierced) procedure used to treat kidney stones that are too large to pass through the urinary tract. Lithotripsy treats kidney stones by sending focused ultrasonic energy or shock waves directly to the stone first located with fluoroscopy (a type of x-ray “movie”) or ultrasound (high frequency sound waves). The shock waves break a large stone into smaller stones that will pass through the urinary system. Lithotripsy allows persons with certain types of stones in the urinary system to avoid an invasive surgical procedure for stone removal.
Procedures
There are two types of shock wave technology. The original lithotripsy machines sent the shock waves through water in a tub in which the person being treated was placed. This technology remains in use today. More recently, machines have been developed that send shock waves through padded cushions on a table, so the procedure does not involve immersing a person in water.
Other procedures that may be used to treat kidney stones include:
urethroscopy or ureteroscopy – endoscopic procedures in which stones in the urethra or ureter may be removed with a device inserted through a short, flexible, lighted tube, called an endoscope
percutaneous nephrolithotomy (tunnel surgery) – a surgical procedure for stones which cannot be treated with lithotripsy or endoscopic procedures. It involves the removal of a stone through a thin tube tunneled through a small incision in the back into the kidney.
Open surgery – a more invasive surgical procedure using a larger incision to directly access the stone
Stent – a synthetic, tubular device that may be used along with other procedures, a stent may be inserted through a special scope into the urinary tract to allow stones to pass more easily.
Risks
Abdominal pain is fairly common after ESWL, but it is usually not a cause for worry. However, persistent or severe abdominal pain may imply an unexpected internal injury. Occasionally, stones may not be completely fragmented during the first ESWL treatment and further lithotripsy procedures may be required. Some people are allergic to the dye material used during an IVP, so it cannot be used. For these people, focused sound waves, called ultrasound, can be used to identify where the stones are located.
Urosurgery hospitals in India are well furnished with advanced techniques and latest medical equipments at very affordable cost. Indian hospitals had been very beneficial for international patients who are deciding to take low price oriented lithotripsy in India. The availability of state of art hospitals and the best medical experts makes India most sought after health destination. Lithotripsy in India is best suitable to patients because it takes lesser time for completion and still has less to pay at the urosurgery hospitals in India. In addition to health care services, they also provide complete transport, travel, accommodation, visa documentation and tourist assistance to health seeking individual. History of Sex in India and Its Changing Role
by slumdog on Oct.09, 2009, under Awards
India with its vast population and ancient history understandably has had changing attitudes towards sex.The history of sex in India has been affected by many things, the caste system, colonization, and latterly globalisation. There has been a turnaround in attitudes towards sex recently and a return to attitudes that were common in ancient times.Although the Kama Sutra is popularly known today in Western countries as a guide to sex, Indian attitudes towards sex has been almost prudish until recently. An influx of Western culture has slowly seen a sexual revolution unfolding in India .The Kama SutraThe Kama Sutra is one of the surviving texts about the sixty four arts of love making. It was not widely distributed by everyone in India . The history of sex in India was always guided by the caste system, as it is today. Sex between castes was often forbidden. The higher castes and those belonging to the nobility practised the sixty four arts. There were many versions of the arts, some of which have been lost forever. These guides were highly influential and spread as far as Japan .The Kama Sutra comes from a time when India had relatively liberal ideas towards sex. Sex was considered a duty to be carried out by married couples, and husband and wife were to pleasure each other equally. These liberal attitudes towards sex are not consistent throughout the history of sex in India .ColonizationColonization had a very big impact on the history of sex in India . British colonists brought with them a Victorian attitude towards sex and propriety. The establishment of British rule meant that British ideas towards sex slowly spread throughout India . This severely curbed sexual freedom and many respected Indians adopted this form of thinking towards sex.GlobalizationWhile the West experienced the beginnings of a sexual revolution in the 1960’s and 70’s, India remained in its colonial past in terms of attitudes towards sex. It has only started to open up to ideas about sex and sexual freedom in recent years as exposure towards Western standards on sexual freedom has increased.Depictions of sex in movies and television has been rare, even kissing scenes are considered by many Indians. This however is changing, with sex slowly creeping into the cinema. The liberalization of sexual attitudes in modern India has marked a new chapter in the history of sex in India . The AIDS epidemic has taken hold of India .The large amount of AIDS cases is largely to do with the population of India . However the problem of poor sex education is also part of the problem. Many people in rural areas do not know they are infected and continue to infect others.

Bihar and India- A perspective
by slumdog on May.30, 2009, under Review
Ever heard people saying, “Bihari jaisi baat mat kar”? All the rickshawallah, Chaiwallah, Autowallah in Delhi has a generic name: “Bihari”.
It’s a fashion in our country to abuse Bihar and Biharis, few times justifiable too. We have seen how Mumbai handled bhaiyas in recent times. In many parts of the country, people don’t have good reputation about Bihar and it is shown in their attitude. Ever thought why is it so? And more importantly, do Indians deserve to have such feeling about one state of their country.
Let’s analyse few of the typical feelings about Bihar and Biharis:
Bihar is poor, backward land of the cow belt
Yes, Bihar is poor. It is in fact one of the poorest states of the country. It is a part of BIMARU states. But does India deserve to raise a finger?
Not long ago, India was said to be the land of snake charmers. “Slumdog Millionaire”, poverty porn has swept the Oscars recently and most of us would agree that it shows the real face of India. India has the largest number of people below poverty line in this world. India is at 127th place among all the countries in terms of HDI. We are better off than few countries in Sub Saharan Africa.
The status of Bihar in India is somewhat comparable to the status of India in the world. Isn’t it?
Biharis don’t have civic sense
Ever seen the trains passing through Bihar, it’s dirty. Any village and town in Bihar is pathetically dirty and unhygienic. But does India deserve to raise a finger?
The cleanliness at Patna railway station is not worse than that at Delhi station. The civic sense of people in Pune is not better than that of people in Purnea. The road and traffic condition in Kolkata is even worse than that at Dhanbad. Collectively we Indians are worst in civic sense. We are good at claiming our rights but bad at exercising our duties.
The status of Bihar in India is somewhat comparable to the status of India in the world. Isn’t it?
Bihar is the exporter of cheap labour to other states
Ever seen the trains going from North Bihar to Punjab and Delhi? People are loaded like animals in the cage. Migrant labourers; the backbone of agriculture in Punjab and Haryana and the backbone of Bihar’s economy. Yes, Bihari migrant labourers are taking away the jobs of local people in many parts of the country, but does India deserve to raise a finger?
India is the largest exporter of cheap labourers to Middle East. Ever seen the “Emirates” flight from Kozikode to Dubai? Indian cheap labourers have taken away the jobs of millions of Americans sitting thousands of miles away. “Bangalored” is the word for outsourcing in Oxford dictionary, and we abuse Biharis for taking away the jobs of local people. Is a farm labourer loosing his job to Bihari migrant different from an American loosing his job to an Indian, having M.Sc. in Physics and ready to do data entry job at dirt cheap rate?
The status of Bihar in India is somewhat comparable to the status of India in the world. Isn’t it?
Biharis are very good at pulling each other down
Biharis are believed to be very good in leg pulling. “Why can’t they mind their own business” is a usual comment about people from Bihar.
There is joke in Europe that they don’t cover the buckets having Indian crabs ‘coz every time a crab tries to escape, others pull them down. No doubts, Indians are one of the most intelligent people on this earth, but the collective intelligence is definitely way below the expectations. Similarly, Biharis are one the most intelligent people in India. Don’t believe that. Check out the results of JEE or UPSC. But again, the collective intelligence of the state is way below the expectation.
The status of Bihar in India is somewhat comparable to the status of India in the world. Isn’t it?
While in Germany, once I encountered a person, who actually felt good in making fun of India. Suddenly I recalled how people feel good in making fun of Bihar back there in India.
They are poor. They are backward. They don’t work at home but once outside, they work hard. They are very intelligent individually, but collectively they are dumb. They always look for short cuts. They are arrogant. They don’t have civic sense. They don’t know how to behave…..
Now try to replace “They” with “Indians” once and then with “Biharis”. You will be amazed.
The status of Bihar in India is somewhat comparable to the status of India in the world. Isn’t it?

India Calling After Slumdog Millionaire Success
by slumdog on May.22, 2009, under Review
The recently released, Slumdog Millionaire was to prove the most popular film on the night at the 2009 Oscar Awards. Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of Jamal Malik, a young boy from the slums who takes a seat in the spotlight of the Hindi version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and wins. His story backtracks to show us how and why he came to be sitting in the famous hot seat – but more importantly how he appears to know all the answers to every question. Filmed on location in beautiful India, viewers are gifted with an insight into the sad reality of the slums which contrasts sharply with the exotic, exciting portrayal of other spectacular locations in and around Mumbai and Agra. It is a film packed with emotion that will have you laughing, crying and most importantly, gaining a more in-depth perspective of life in India. Slumdog Millionaire is a film that manages to educate viewers on the sights and sounds of this glorious country – and the success of the film is inspiring more and more holiday makers to try a slice of Indian life. Indeed, many will have now experienced what India has to offer thanks to the big screen; however, an escorted tour is the best way to see the sights of India and with a knowledgeable guide you will be in for a truly eye-opening experience. Such tours can offer to take you through Delhi, Jaipur and Agra – with opportunities to extend your tour and visit Goa, Sri Lanka or Ranthambore. Visit mesmerising Old Delhi with its narrow streets and colourful bazaars, before moving on to the imperial architectural masterpiece of Lutyen’s New Delhi. Then move onto Jaipur, also known as the pink city; receiving its name from a pink paint job the locals performed on their houses and stores to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1853, which gives the town a calm and relaxed feel. En route, why not visit the perfectly preserved deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri or get lost in the magic of Bollywood at the Raj Mandir cinema – both of which provide an opportunity to further experience what the local culture has to offer. Agra is most famed for the Taj Mahal – a tribute built by 20,000 labourers for Shah Jahan to honour his wife, Mumtaz. The cool marble and clear symmetry are justifiably a masterpiece of the modern world. In fact, it may prove beneficial to have a professional photographer on hand, to make sure you get amazing shots of this awe-inspiring icon. If you choose to extend your India holidays, then visiting Ranthambore National Park is a major example of Project Tiger’s conservation plans in Rajasthan. Here you will be treated to three games drives in open-top vehicles to see these magnificent creatures, which is just another example of the many iconic images of India you can expect to experience.
